The Production Process

The Production Process

Design

Once you have provided YOLO with a design brief and a Pinterest board link, work will commence on a few design samples. If a Pinterest board has not been provided, we will create a board on your behalf and send you a link. Upon approval of the board, work will begin on the samples.

Initial design samples based on your brief will be provided for your consideration and feedback. After your feedback YOLO will refine the design in consultation with yourself.

Approval of the final design sample will be required prior to production starting on the yearbook. Once the layout of the 1st proofs has begun it will not be possible to change the main design elements, so you will need to make sure that everyone is happy with the design before approving it.

Milestone Dates

On agreement of timeline, delivery date and preferred method of proofing, you will receive deadlines for sending all the initial yearbook content (article images and text) and for the various proof check stages.

If your content is delivered after the allocated deadline, or you return proofs late, we cannot guarantee to meet your delivery date – although we will try our best to do so. layout Once you have provided your content to YOLO, you can sit back and relax while we lay out your yearbook. If we have any concerns regarding the content, such as too much or too little text or photos supplied, then we will contact you. 1st proofs First page proofs will be provided for checking of all content – either online or printed hardcopy depending on your chosen proofing preference.

Hard-copy Proofs

For the hard-copy proofs, please indicate any corrections by marking them clearly and concisely either directly on the hardcopy proof, or via an electronic list. If marking on hardcopy, please use a red pen to mark corrections. If providing corrections electronically, please ensure that you clearly detail the page, article, paragraph and line number, as well as the text correction required.

Online Proofs

For online proofs, an email will be sent inviting you to log in and edit your book. This will enable you to make any text edits electronically yourself, rather than writing them on a hardcopy proof. Digital notes can also be added to relevant pages to instruct YOLO if any design changes are required such as photos to be changed, deleted, added or a layout adjusted, etc. Return the hard-copy proofs or finish editing your proofs online by the allocated deadline.

Extra Material

Send any additional material, such as date-dependant articles/photos, via Dropbox as per the checklist instructions.

Amendments

YOLO will implement all corrections indicated, enhance all images and supply you with a final proof.

Final Proof

Final page proofs will be provided for checking of all content – either online or printed hardcopy depending on your chosen proofing preference. Although YOLO has a thorough internal proof-checking process, it is essential that you carefully check that all corrections requested have been made. This is to ensure that we have not misunderstood a comment or misread someone’s handwriting. This is particularly important where YOLO has made the corrections from marked-up hardcopy proofs.

For hardcopy proofs – please indicate any further corrections by marking them clearly and concisely either directly on the hardcopy proof, or via an electronic list. For online proofs – Follow the same process as first page proofs. A hardcopy proof will also be sent at this stage.

Final Amendments

YOLO will implement and check any final corrections indicated and will resupply via PDF any pages that need to be rechecked prior to final sign off.

Online Sign Off

Once final corrected pages are confirmed as correct, an email will be sent inviting you to sign off the project online.

Review all the details are correct and change where applicable. Confirm that all corrections have been made and that the project is error free.

YOLO does not accept any liability if an error is found after the project has been signed off by the school.

Spot Check and Creating The Print File

YOLO will carry out a complimentary spot check for incorrect spelling and grammar or any text inconsistencies that may have been overlooked.

Any errors found will be corrected and the file will be prepared for print.

Prepress, Print, Bind, Deliver

YOLO will complete our final in-house prepress procedures, including checking that the printer’s hard copy proof meets our high expectations.

Once printing is complete, we also carry out a pre-binding proof check as the final step in quality control. Upon our approval, the cover and pages are then bound together.

Finally, the book is packaged and delivered to your school or mail house.

Congratulations – the yearbook is complete!
