Creating a Pinterest Board

Creating a Pinterest Board

Sign up to Pinterest

Open a web browser window and go to www.pinterest.nz. Sign up using either your email and a password of your choice, or use your Facebook or Google
log in.

As you set up your account Pinterest will ask you to add some areas of interest such as design, education, etc. These topics will determine what type of pins Pinterest will select to appear on your feed initially.

Create a board

Click the plus in a red circle icon to create a board (or a secret board if you do not want it to be publicly accessible). Name the board and save it. You can also create boards on the fly as you are creating pins.

Adding Pins to your board

You can have as many boards as you wish. Once you have created your board/s you can start adding pins. Pins are essentially like idea or inspiration 'cards' that you can collect and then refer to later.

There are three different ways to add pins to your boards.
1. Save a pin that someone else has created
2. Create a pin from a website
3. Create a pin from a file that you upload from your computer

Save a Pin

When you log in to Pinterest you will see a whole lot of pins filling your screen, based on your interests or pins currently trending on Pinterest. You can also do a search for topics of interests by using the Search bar at the top of the browser window. Hover your mouse over the pin that you want to save. You will see a red Save button come up on the top right of the card. Click the Save buttton.

At this point, you can edit the text of the pin if you wish. Choose which of your boards you want to save it to and click on that board, or you can click the Create Board at the bottom of the list to create a new board. The pin will be saved to that board.

Create a Pin from a website

If you find an image on a website that you would like to add as a pin, copy the URL from the top of your browser and log in to Pinterest (if you are not already).
  • click the Create a Pin button on the top left of the page, OR
  • go into one of your boards and click the 'create a pin' icon, OR
  • go to the Pins tab and click the 'add' icon, OR
  • click the red circle with a plus icon at top right of your browser window and select Save from Site

At the bottom of the Create Pin window, click the Save from site button at bottom left. Paste the URL of the website you want to create the pin from and then click Done at bottom right

All the images on that web page will then appear in the browser. Click Save on the image that you want to create a Pin from. Edit the description as per above instruction and save to the board of your choice.

Create a Pin from an image you upload

  1. Click 'Create Pin' as per previous instructions
  2. Click the Upload Pin button at bottom left
  3. Drag and drop image from your computer, or click the camera icon to upload a photo
  4. Add a description and click Done at bottom right
  5. Save to the board of your choice as before.
An alternative method is to click the red circle with a plus icon at top right of your browser window and select Upload image, then continue with steps 3-5 above.

Invite your colleagues to a board

  1. Click on and go into the board that you want to share.
  2. Click the icon with a person and a plus next to it at the top right of the board.
  3. Type in the person's email address and click the Invite button.
They will receive an invite via email to join the board (they will need to sign up to Pinterest if they do not already have an account).
